Prison of a Shell

We carry around with us these giant structures … each of us comes with our own conceptual carapace of beliefs, habits, and histories.  Not all of these things are positive either.  For instance, if you begin a deception you then continue to carry that deception with you … eventually it affects every aspect of your life.  This construct you have created starts to become a bothersome burden, but you continue to haul it around, and even add to it, just so that you won’t have to have had all that energy gone wasted … just so that you won’t have to CHANGE.

There comes a time though where we must decide whether we are going to live our lives in resignation, beaten down by the weight of what we have amassed, or whether we will let go of this burden … allow it to fall away, and shatter into a thousand shards of what it all really was … NOTHING.

When you have been Awakened, there really are only two choices:

a) Remain Awakened and be committed to that; no matter what the cost (which means your constructs must be shattered, no matter how painful it may be to experience).

– or –

b) Switch off that light of Enlightenment and resign yourself to true misery … the misery of knowing what life is all about, and that you have chosen to turn your back on it.

That’s it … there are no other options … it comes down to those two, distinct choices.  You choose the former, and enjoy an open-hearted connection with your Creator that will see you through every difficulty and trial … or you choose the latter, and hope that those awful trials will pass you by because you are hiding in the shadows instead of living out in the Light.

It means, of course, that you may have to leave behind everything you have and everyone you know (potentially).  It doesn’t necessarily HAVE to be such a drastic outcome, but the potential is there and we must acknowledge such possibilities.  You can quite literally possess NOTHING and yet have everything, simply because you are Open and connected to God … or you can horde everything you’ve amassed and remain imprisoned by your gigantic, hollow prison of a shell.

About julienmatei
I feel an inner urge to express what I see, to communicate and share with others all these impressions. Often the things I see are there, not yet manifest, but waiting... to be observed, talked about, and embraced. These new insights need another approach, a more vivid curiosity... Due to fear and prejudice we prefer to see only "the official" truth - but THE OFFICIAL TRUTH IS DEAD - being dead, it has nothing to give... We can continue pretending Death is fascinating or... we can take the trouble to LIVE... THE NEW has no definition yet... Again, IT requires another "perception", the courage to apprehend everything differently, from a totally new angle, with new confidence and inquisitive touch. This blog is not about interesting concepts, it is about participation... finding new solutions, inspiration, togetherness.

Julien, this inspiring passage made me think of Auden’s lines- “We would rather be ruined than changed, we would rather die in our dread than climb the cross of the moment and let our illusions die.”

Your message- so impassioned, so importantly true.

That was really a fantastic one:
“We would rather be ruined than changed, we would rather die in our dread than climb the cross of the moment and let our illusions die.”

…climb the cross of the moment and let illusions die…hm…

      So powerful…

I experienced that today…when illusions die, it feels really like homecoming…there is nowhere to go as you are home everywnere in every moment, second by second…I wrote in my book that in those moments you kind of “don´t exist” anymore… but “you are being existed”…the usual sense of I-ness has vanished, and yet you feel so incredibly real…Desire is gone, – what a relief – …craving likewise, you just look, partaking in the Cosmic drama, but not entirely “identifying” with it…as if both witnessing and being witnessed…and none of it…If I only had the words…

There is no effort anymore, no choice, but a rather “strange” unutterable state which is totally beyond No… – very weird what I say now … – a state which is a magnificently pervasive YES…

This blessed grace stayed with me for half an hour or so…till my former I-ness returned again…

      Ego…still playing tricks on me…

I read this post again. It so well written pertinent and coherent.

I saw somewhere in a comment you call yourself a Christian.

Who are you really to have “reached” such clarity?…:) What is your story? I would like to know about your path in life.

      Sincerely,

      Julien

        Thank you Julien,

Well, I was raised in a fundamentalist Christian missionary family. As a young adult I came under a very extreme amount of scrutiny in terms of who I am … this caused me to question what I had been raised to believe over the course of my entire life. I felt like I had been brainwashed to believe some things that simply could not be true. I felt the need to boil everything down to only that which cannot be argued one way or the other … what I was left with? Love. Love is the only infallible force. So I retain many things from Christianity … the belief that God is Love and Love is God, I also believe in the divinity of Jesus … but I think that we all are capable of achieving such a place as well … Buddha would have called this enlightenment, in my mind … Jesus called for us to be “brothers and sisters” (Matthew 12: 48-50). I believe that this is calling us to all be awakened; turned on spiritually … to have a literal, intimate, and loving relationship with God where we are open to being touched, Loved, and used to the utmost of what we are capable and intended … for the betterment of the world. To me … if there is any form of negative energy attached to one’s spirituality, or to any religion … that is not God. God is Love. It is not up to us to govern each other … only to love, support, and help each other. I believe that God, the Universe, or whatever anyone wants to reference … is powerful enough to guide each of us, if we have ears to hear. So it is our goal and mission to unplug our ears.

I also believe that God is beyond our limited understanding … so I cannot tell anyone else whether they are right or wrong. While I still consider myself Christian, I am open to finding and experiencing God wherever I am led. If Love is at my core, then I will never be led astray. All I can do is Love … if I put God’s Love into the world, then it is up to God to use it for whatever it is supposed to become.

I hope that helps to explain where I am coming from, and I appreciate your interest.

Peace and Love to you and all your readers.

    * When I say “I cannot tell anyone else whether they are right or wrong”, I am speaking in terms of religious beliefs … not political issues, or anything else … I am strictly speaking on the topic of religion.

What you meant was clear to me…

Just one thought that arises in me now:
What is belief ultimately? Is not “belief”, the source of separation and fruitless argument? Can we go “beyond” name and belief into the nameless Source of things?

Are you acquainted with this great book The Cloud of Unknowing?

    • julienmatei says:

I guess this is my predicament as well:

“As a young adult I came under a very extreme amount of scrutiny in terms of who I am … this caused me to question what I had been raised to believe over the course of my entire life. I felt like I had been brainwashed to believe some things that simply could not be true. I felt the need to boil everything down to only that which cannot be argued one way or the other… ”

Our present credo, is built on fear and delusion. In fact fear is delusion, fear is absence, and ultimately non existent. So we all have been forced to take fear – that is absence – as the ultimate reality. In that way we are all brainwashed – as you put it.

When you “boil everything down to only that which cannot be argued” is another way of describing to transcend duality, indeed, to have understood the illusory nature of Fear.

When Fear is understood, naturally we transcend duality. So yes, then and only then you realize that God is Love.

      What do you think?

      Best regards,

      J

Beautifully worded … I like what you say about understanding Fear. I must admit that when I gained victory over Fear, it was because I simply accepted what it was that I feared. I allowed it to be, instead of trying to fight it or run away from it … and then I simply moved forward as my True Self. When we make decisions based on Fear, we feed and give power to Fear … but if we sit back in our own consciousness and accept that which we fear … it has no power any more. Then our actions can be truly based in Love … when we are reacting to Fear, they are not. Thank you for your words. Peace and Love.
