Let your goals reach you

We inevitably place a goal sometime in the future, often creating an insurmountable gap between us now, and whatever desirable aim we may have. With other words, this gap between The Factual Now and an abstract “Then” – the goal – is, and reinforces division and distance, distance which breeds unbearable frustration. Terrible conflict and confusion…

The true challenge is to place the goal in this very Now, that is, to live with it as a natural process. That creates a totally different frame of mind. Living with the goal now, we gain confidence. Faith that the goal is realizable step by step.

When we go about step by step – as a friend of mine says, “in lots of little ways” -, it´s no longer a question of struggling, but of wise and genuine unfolding.

About julienmatei
I feel an inner urge to express what I see, to communicate and share with others all these impressions. Often the things I see are there, not yet manifest, but waiting... to be observed, talked about, and embraced. These new insights need another approach, a more vivid curiosity... Due to fear and prejudice we prefer to see only "the official" truth - but THE OFFICIAL TRUTH IS DEAD - being dead, it has nothing to give... We can continue pretending Death is fascinating or... we can take the trouble to LIVE... THE NEW has no definition yet... Again, IT requires another "perception", the courage to apprehend everything differently, from a totally new angle, with new confidence and inquisitive touch. This blog is not about interesting concepts, it is about participation... finding new solutions, inspiration, togetherness.

    +1

Often the goal in the future is about obtaining something you lack, the underlining goal is to fix your ego and therefore make you happy somehow.

The problem with that approach is usually than an unhappy ego cannot do the necessary work to make itself happy: the ego survival’s mechanisms resist change, or, the more the hurt ego is put in motion, the more it produces even more hurt ego. By reaffirming the existence of the hurt / incomplete ego which needs a fix, you only reaffirm a hurt / incomplete ego which needs a fix.

The second problem is that the fix is in the future and now in the now. Ego can visualise a future where everything works, because the future doesnt exist. Wanting something on the future is an evasion on the now, and evading the now is in a major way what’s really causing pain on that ego (and its inventing that ego). Pushing away stuff to the future can happen all along the way from this moment to the actual goal, which means that even if the goal is acquired the ego will remain untouched, aka, pushing the fix to a new future.

The third problem and probably the main one is that ego doesnt know shit about what will fix it. Any ego projection is just another way the ego is trying to validate itself. The goal is quite possible not what is needed, but what feels convenient. The whole thing is probably a safe fake.

Still we need goals and actions and stuff, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting stuff and producing change. I have several approaches, see what works for you:

    1) Quit the goal. Contemplate the goal and all the happy situation you’re going for and quit it. Contemplate that void / sadness / death and pull all the energy, tension, projection back to you. Quit and inhale the impostor.

    2) Teleport. The goal is there because of something. If you had X then you would Y. So put yourself in the future already, make it your now, and move from there and make Y, or teleport to Y and move to Z. Or, what would you do if you had X, what if you are X already, what now? what if you were already happy, what if you were whole, what if. What if the sensation that you lack any or all of it is an illusion that can you can awake from. Or, instead of being incomplete and moving towards complete, figure what your complete person would do and do that. Be there already, now.

    3) Do. Do the actual stuff, the actual steps when there are actual steps (practice, body of work, skills) without the ego. Make it an act of meditation. Make the actual doing a quitting (1), do the process because of the process, not because of the goal. Do the process because you’re already there (2) and this is what you do because you already are, and not because you want to become. Because the imagined become is really a non becoming.

    Hope that adds something.

and a song I wrote recently about this! Chasing Halves

    ———

What if you had a million
    Dollars

    If you could dream
    Who would you be?

    What if you didn’t have
    Excuses

    Who would you be
    If you were free

    What if the world
    is an illusion

    To keep us trapped
    Chasing halves

    What if all we have
    Is this moment

    Who would you be
    If you were free

    So what if…

    You don’t play
    You don’t say
    You don’t play
    You don’t say
    You don’t play

    What if…

    * * *

    What if they’re wrong
    What if we’re strong

    What is all this…
    Have you thought about it?

    Which half is gold
    Which half is mud

    Which half is…
    The one you care about?

    What if we’re gods

    What if we’re whole

    What is all this…
    Have you thought about it?

    Have you thought about it…
    Really thought about it?

    * * *

    What if our gold
    Had no value

    But still our shine
    Would light the sky

    What would you choose
    If you were happy

    Who would you be
    If you were free?

    So what if…

    You don’t play
    You don’t say
    You don’t play
    You don’t say
    You don’t play

    What if…

    * * *

    What if they’re wrong
    What if we’re strong

    What is all this…
    Have you thought about it?

    Which half is gold
    Which half is mud

    Which half is…
    The one you care about?

    What if we’re gods

    What if we’re whole

    What is all this…
    Have you thought about it?

    Have you thought about it…
    Really thought about it?

    We should know better
    We oughta know better
    We’re gonna know better
    We’re gotta do better

‘Cause baby, we are all there is
‘Cause baby, I’ve got the shine in me

      Indeed:
      Who would you be
      If you were free…?

The world is an illusion which keeps us trapped in the process of “looking for” ourselves.

I would love to hear the whole song – I mean with music 🙂 For the record I heard one of your songs. You have a great voice.

I have to ponder on your comment and till get back in due time.
