This is what makes a great musician

A blissful state of unforced choice-less listening – which takes in, appropriates and renders every single tone as SUPREMELY IMPORTANT.

This is a perfect analogy to what makes a great human being…

Indeed, this coherent, sublimely even awareness…- namely, that there is no more important thing than the other…That every single perception, action, gesture is equally and formidably IT:

L I F E… – lived in loving attention…

Can we break free from inner and outer blockages through Art?

Nothing is definitively said or done.

To dare consider everything anew, to “seize” the moment
as an inspired improvisation – to question and examine it all out of a sense
of freedom and not going by the rule.

Life is about jazz, nay, LIFE IS JAZZ, yet very few seem to see or want to understand this.

Sadly, everyone wants to play it safely, and the consequence is that true expression
has become almost anarchic in our days.

Heidi:
Conformity is safety… I want to ‘play jazz’ yet how can I when I do not where the notes start, how the tune goes…? :-)

I have been more aware, and as you say, aiming for true expression recently… it is harder than it seems, when you are consciously aware of behaviour/thoughts/feelings, because past patterns are so tightly held that is hard to see past them, to understand where and how to break free.

First we must see, before we can change.

Me:
Take the Change and in the process you begin to see – that´s the way it goes.

Who in you wants “to understand”?…Give it thought…

It is in actual fact the “inner authority”, this thief in you which is the past, the ubiquitous conditioning, the societal voices keeping you captive, hating change, preventing you from letting go and finding out.

These patterns are terribly difficult to break, I know that well.

Please listen!

YOU HAVE TO STOP BEING “AWARE”…WHAT WE IMAGINE BEING AWARENESS IS AN ILLUSION. That because “True Awareness” is beyond any conscious pursuit, it actually belongs to the so-called unconscious mind.

So…DO IT FIRST AND UNDERSTAND AFTERWARDS!

Write first and analyze after! – that´s the way it goes.

Trust your gut feeling IN THE SECOND! Only in total spontaneity you can fathom something…

You don´t need to know HOW THE TUNE STARTS, or how it goes…just start.

Hum if you have to, hear the sounds around you, talk senselessly, hit any rhythm with
your fingers…

This is the ultimate truth: LIFE OBEYS NO PREDICTABLE PATTERN…simply dare admit that.

Don´t try to break free – you are actually free. You just are finding out this now.

When an inner situation is not made conscious, it happens outside, as fate

C. G. Jung

Who is the observer and what is observed?

He asks:
Can the world exist outside the mind?

Can there really be objectivity?

Me:
Can the knife cut itself?

Can the eye see itself?

This world is the outcome of our mind. Mind existing as division.

Is the observer different from the observed?

What happens if there is no observer and nothing observed?

So in order to answer both your questions, we need to look in-depth at
the very nature of mind:

Can mind exist outside division?…

Who´s the subject and who the object?

Are subjectivity and objectivity ever separable, or intrinsically one…?

Only the nameable can be stated, never ther highest reality

WE MAY KNOW WHAT ONENESS ENTAILS, GIVEN WE LET GO OF MIND NOW.

She:
Letting go of mind” is my priority, my focus. Intellectually, I get what you are saying. We’ve all had many moments out of Time and Mind, so what makes it so “difficult” to “stay” there? I am driven by the fact that I know my Liberation is already accomplished; my most frequent mode is to be grateful and just float in Awareness, watching the illusory fall away. Gratefully, I know nothing, am sure of nothing, am empty and waiting to be filled. I strobe in and out of Awareness, yet I am at Home in Heaven. Just observing as the lies fade away.

Me:
Quite a synchronicity. As it happens, I wrote this little post the other day about understanding:

“If you say you understand it intellectually, it means that you don´t understand it at all.”

If you are hungry, no matter how intellectually I would depict a great dinner for you, that wouldn´t help you, so I´d better give you a piece of bread, to still your hunger.

Intellect is like depicting a dinner. Reality is that we have to eat…- well, at least
in this dimension. 🙂

You have to be really hungry in order to understand. I am not implying you are not. I am just emphasizing that when Mind claims to understand, it totally misunderstands the whole thing.

Mind is misconception, as it directly derives from separation. What is separated can never see anything clearly.

You know that the egoic mind is very cunning. It can give itself as the highest authority. Practically, time and again, we fall victims of our projections and self-delusions.

Illusion is incredibly skilful to pass as Truth. We can think we are Home, but that can be just another subtle self-deception.

EGO IS VERY SHREWD!! Ego can play God, I think you know that by now…

Liberation is not a static goal, something to strive for. Self doesn´t have a clear address, that´s why “priority” and “focus” cannot never “yield” it, cause then we indulge in sheer dualistic thinking. Priority and focus are just some other names for projection.

We have all glimpses, but we cannot “stay there”. Ego turns everything alive into a memory to possess!! ONLY THE NAMEABLE CAN BE STATED, NEVER THE HIGHEST REALITY WHICH HAS NO NAME.

So:

“Letting go of my mind” is Mind fooling itself…Let go of “priority”, let go of focus, let go of any intent, cause that empowers the mind´s conditioning.

Just impartially observe.

Don´t subordinate Awareness to your idea of time

Emma:
Thanks to Eckhart I try to be aware of awareness all day but it only happens occasionally. I love it when I am aware like now. Thanks for starting my day with this reminder.

Me:
You see,

Let´s put it like that: Awareness doesn´t belong to Tolle, to me or to you. It doesn´t belong either to what we usually call chronological time. It doesn´t obey or fit in our classifications of time and space.

Thus, let it just happen “occasionally” – take it from there. Get to know its sparkling timeless quality. That means you need to learn to adjust yourself to the PULSE OF THE SECOND, as a new and real measure of time.
Pretty soon, you will realize that “the pulse of the second” is the only reliable measure.  To awareness, days, weeks, minutes or years mean naught as timeless time is simultaneous.

Therefore, don´t try to subordinate it your will or your idea of time – “be aware of awareness all day”.
Don´t control it in an attempt to prolong it…Whenever we try to prolong something, we prolong our ego and with it, our further suffering.

Only falseness can be prolonged, controlled and possessed.

Action in love

Always question habitual action!

Indulging in habit and self-sufficiency never brings about real quality.
Only when being awake moment by moment, can we be perceptively accurate.

This awakeness is successful action. Quality – action in love 😉

Conditioning equates destiny

Me:

It seems that people hold on to certain beliefs. The insidious reality is that oftentimes, certain entrenched beliefs hold you in their strong grip, without you being aware of it. That’s the case with the majority of people – their are totally caught in timeless conditioning. The fish doesn’t question water – this applies to certain immemorial ideas and complexes people identify as the only viable and unquestionable “Reality”.

Oftentimes you think you choose “something new”, whereas in reality you find just another truth or different system which intrinsically is nothing but another facet of the old conditioning.

Thus, it does require an incredible amount of courage and awareness to question current perception and completely dis-identify from it.

Cuoregiallo:

I agree. It really is a matter of shifting beliefs. It’s not our fault that our parents or the society itself grew up with different ideas and ideals. I truly respect that. It’s the truth for them. However, if one person wishes to make a huge difference (and change for that matter), it sure does take a lot of courage and awareness to bring about the desired result.

In totality, we have diverse perspectives about how to handle certain situations. But the only thing that binds people together is the values we all share and believe to be truthful. Values such as, like you said, courage, integrity, commitment, love, compassion, passion, etc. I guess that’s what the world lacks now, not just Sweden itself. People lack value in their lives.

Me:

So what is the specific meaning of Value for you?…

Meditation and not thinking

Commenting my post https://julienmatei.com/2012/10/09/happiness-is-the-real-you/
Richard says:

The more important fact is that it is even possible to stop thinking when you are awake and conscious. The so-called meditation is nothing more than stopping thinking.

So I claim, the first step towards real happiness is to stop thinking. Not necessarily permanently but the more the merrier.

You see
It is tricky: can thinking put a stop to itself? If to “stop thinking” entails a volitional act, “non thinking” will  surely become even more thinking – quite obvious, nothing but a wishful projection. Consider this: Who is the inner authority wanting to stop thinking?…If I sit down and meditate with the purpose of putting a conscious stop to thought, tell me – is that meditation? No, it’s delusion, the ego’s way to fool itself. Ego says: I meditate I am egoless…
The kind of non thinking I talk about is not to be found within the frame of duality. Non thinking is not an ideal – it is not something attainable with any of our inner tools…

Non thinking is grace…- the prerogative of enlightenment. Illumination is indeed very rare. Why do you think that Zen disciples spend years with mind–blowing koans and very few – if any – become enlightened…?

As I said, the first step to real understating is to recognize the hopelessness of our dualistic predicament…Only that kind of non selective and non controlled Attention is the only key. This non–volitional Attention, so to say, is the beginning to real change, the first step to Freedom.

Only in this Awareness we might find out what is beyond duality.
Only this awareness is the glimpse of “the real” reality.
