Every time we stress the importance of “mine”, we call in strife and despondency. Infelicity.
The thing is that whatever is “mine” is neither optimistic nor pretty, even if we ascribe it resounding names like “spiritual journey” or “the adventure of the soul”.
Whatever is separate – the “I” – is bound to depress and disconcert…
Disappointment and enmity is inherent in I-ness.
The most vital question is this:
Can we exist without this distinct sense of falseness which is the separate ego?…
Can we wholeheartedly stay with and assume this very dilemma?
We´d better…
As only Wholeness, which is the cessation of the illusion of separateness, of “I” as the center, can thoroughly heal us from conflict and misfortune.
Can we grasp anything without any preconceived knowledge?

Words must have meaning. I have just written a sentence, if you do not know the meaning to any of the words, there is nothing to ponder. To ponder the concept of ‘ego’ one must have their own definition of what ‘ego’ is to have an opinion of it. To have a discussion with someone else they must either share the definition or if they have different definitions they explain to each other what Ego means to them.

That´s my question:
Is Meaning something we ascribe based on a certain standpoint or argument? Do we understand anything according to an ubiquitous thesis after all?
Of course I hear what you say. Freud speaks about Ego – or, of whatever else – in a certain way, Jung, in a different manner. Philosophically speaking, we are expected to build up a suitable consensus – a system – if we are to appropriate anything.
That´s exactly what I am trying to avoid. That is:
Can we be so free and unbiased as to have a discussion without taking account of definitions and explanations?
Can we be so direct and intuitive as to take on something without any preconceived knowledge?
What happens to a poem if we try to “explain” it? Don´t we kill the very essence of music, if we are to define what music intrinsically is?
Can we thus be so free of any preconception to grasp a “truth” without “understanding” it?

Going against and dismissing what I have been taught to believe is truly hard work. My brain functions have been conditioned to fathom and consider reality according to such deceitful civilizational legacy – a bunch of idiotic crap really – so the new and healthily transformational Truth which bursts out of me, has as yet no coherent words inside myself.
So these last days, I have been going around in a state of “knowing”, yet without being able to articulate these highly uncommon insights. So – great serendipity or not – I´ve just bumped here into this excerpt by Alan Watts, which just happens to put words to my epiphany.
“Just because it is a hoax from the beginning, the personal ego can make only a phony response to life. For the world is an ever-elusive and ever-disappointing mirage only from the standpoint of someone standing aside from it — as if it were quite other than himself — and then trying to grasp it. Without birth and death, and without the perpetual transmutation of all the forms of life, the world would be static, rhythm-less, undancing, mummified.
But a third response is possible. Not withdrawal, not stewardship on the hypothesis of a future reward, but the fullest collaboration with the world as a harmonious system of contained conflicts — based on the realization that the only real “I” is the whole endless process. This realization is already in us in the sense that our bodies know it, our bones and nerves and sense-organs. We do not know it only in the sense that the thin ray of conscious attention has been taught to ignore it, and taught so thoroughly that we are very genuine fakes indeed.”

Disunity and isolation – the greatest Illusion of them all

The body itself, the flesh and blood of us, wants lots of things, food, warmth,,,then the ego individual of us wants recognition, comfort, status, in short whatever feels good…… but if there is a part of us that says, “all fine and good, and even necessary, but is there not more?” then things become shaky and uncomfortable.
I think depressions, addictions and such, either come from the ego who is not satisfied with ego wanting, or it can also come from the spirit of a person who is searching for more than ego satisfactions, in other words a soul who seeks a meaning to life itself, asks the big questions, …..like what is that spark of consciousness who is conscious of itself and yet feels so isolated? Longing for a greater unity?

The point is:
WHO in us feels isolated?…How come we feel isolated in a Universe which is anything but “isolated”…? This Isolation we feel, is it true…? Or eventually Isolation is Fear – this terrible illusion which is taken for true by millions of people.
This Illusion of isolation is the terrible dream of disunity,
of Unhappiness – can you see that?
Think it over:
Who is uncomfortable, who in us wants “more”… is there such thing as “more” when you are at ease, completely present and absorbed in What is? – that is, when you are Unity, at one with all there is?
Can you see that this entity who dreams the dream of Isolation is Ego…?
All depressions, addictions, satisfaction-craving, entitlement-issues is Ego – dissatisfaction remaining dissatisfied no matter what…
There is meaning-seeking as long there is Ego…- that because Ego as such is a total failure, spooky meaninglessness ultimately.
It is Ego asking “the big questions”, whereas in reality from the perspective of Self, of the true Spirit, there are no questions – because:
WHO is there to ask? And who is there to answer…?

The devil is the aping shadow of God

When we are possessed by the unconscious, a more powerful, archetypal energy shape-shifts and takes on our seeming form, which we absorb into, identify with and believe to be who we are.
Bamboozled and hoodwinked by the slick “salesmanship” of this imposter of ourselves, we “buy” into its version of who we are. We then live a simulation of ourselves, miming ourselves, becoming a master copy, a duplicate of our original selves. To the extent we are unconsciously possessed by the daemon, it is as if a psychic parasite has taken over our brain and tricked us, its host, into thinking we are feeding and empowering ourselves while we are actually nourishing the parasite.
It is as if our soul has become hijacked by a deeper, archetypal force, and has been replaced with a pale imitation of ourselves, and, to the extent we are taken over, we don’t even realize it.
Archetypes, Jung points out, “have the most disagreeable quality of appearing in your own guise.” The spirit of the unconscious impersonates us, fooling even ourselves, as it cloaks itself in our form. This mercurial spirit has “put us on” as a disguise, appearing as ourselves, or at least who we imagine ourselves to be.
