There is no reaching the Self

“If the Self were to be reached, it would mean that the Self is not now and here, but that it should be got anew. What is got afresh, will also be lost. So it will be impermanent. What is not permanent is not worth striving for. So I say, the Self is not reached. You are the Self. You are already That.”
– Ramana Maharshi

I know these words to be unfailingly true from so-called personal experience. Sometimes you simply are “there”, face to face with It…Such inexpressible bliss to dwell in that silent non distinction, feeling in the core of your being that everything is indiscernible togetherness: that you and “the other” partake in It… – One expressing Itself as Many…

But there are moments when despite knowing this to be so – that Self cannot be reached as It pervasively breathes now – you are out of touch with It, feeling lonely and abandoned, swimming in a sea of sadness and uncertainty…- not knowing what “the next step” is…

Who is there to tell…?

What is Source?

I joke about most people who tell you things only according to something else and how they require a reference or source to validate anything. Obviously there is a source, it just doesn’t have a traditional means of referencing it. DNA memory? Organic Frequency? A rose is just as sweet by any name you call it I suppose.

If you had asked Ramana Maharshi what the source is, he, like me, would have answered “Who is asking?”… Worth pondering on…:)

Source – or shall we call it Emptiness – being non-dual, that is, beyond projection, cannot be inferred by any of our so-called instruments of inquiry. It is beyond any reference, at the same time, it is the reference of everything. You know this already, I think.

Intrinsically, Mind is the outcome of duality and projection, and as such, it is in False Relation to everything. Being biased and insecure – what else?…- it always seeks validation in everything it undertakes: it simply cannot function outside preexisting reference. Consequently, it relentlessly turns Life into a sum of loose aspects put together,,,

As for the rose: release it from its name, and you might find the clue…;)

Silence is also conversation

– Ramana Maharshi

What will not happen will never happen

…whatever effort one may put forth.

And what will happen will not fail to happen,
however much one may seek to prevent it.

This is certain.

The part of wisdom therefore is to stay quiet.

– Ramana Maharshi

Not a random question

I can give it to you, he said.

So long as there is thought, there will be fear

What else is there so worthy to be undertaken?

Unless and until a man embarks upon this quest of the true self, doubt and uncertainty will follow his footsteps throughout life. The greatest kings and statesmen try to rule others, when in their heart of hearts they know that they cannot rule themselves. Yet the greatest power is at the command of the man who has penetrated to his inmost depth.

There are men of giant intellects who spend their lives gathering knowledge about many things. Ask these men if they have solved the mystery of man, if they have conquered themselves, and they will hang their heads in shame. What is the use of knowing about everything else when you do not yet know who you are? Men avoid this enquiry into the true self, but what else is there so worthy to be undertaken?
